This qualification is delivered over part eLearning and part ‘virtual’ classroom.

The qualification consists of the following four modules:

Module 1: (WWPSI) Working within the Private Security Industry (this is the online eLearning Module you complete before attending the ‘virtual’ classroom based training)

Module 2: (WSO) Working as a Security Officer (delivered in the virtual classroom)

Module 3: (CMPSI) Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry (delivered in the virtual classroom)

The course is assessed with three straightforward multiple choice exams (done online). Once you have completed the course (and passed the exams), you will be able to apply to the SIA for your ‘actual’ SIA Security Guard licence. The licence is subject to a criminal record check (including overseas criminal records). The SIA licence costs £190 and is valid for 3 years. The Security Guarding Licence enables you to work in Security Guarding roles such as Shopping centres, Building sites, Commercial and Corporate environments, etc!

Skills for Jobs Ltd prides itself on delivering only the very best SIA Security Guard Training and are confident when we say, book with Skills for Jobs and you’ll start your career the right way!

Recently the SIA announced an extended pilot scheme where the Security Guard course can be run (in its entirety) online via ‘live’ learning.

What is Live Learning? Your course will be delivered over the internet real-time and face-to-face with the trainer. You will be able to participate in lessons, ask questions, talk to other participants etc as you would have done in a physical in-class course. The quality of the lessons and training will not be any different from what you would have experienced in-class.

The benefits of delivering the course with Live Learning include the need not to travel and avoid the risk of coronavirus transmission.

Setting up your space for virtual learning:

When attending an online class, you should work in a physical space that will allow you to focus on the class and participate without distracting your classmates and instructor(s).

- Work in a quiet room, with minimal background noise and distractions.

- Connect a webcam to your computer so you can share your camera if needed.

- Use a good microphone. A noise-cancelling headset is recommended - but not essential.

- Have with you, a pen and some paper to take notes.

Course overview:

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The Level 2 Award in Security Guarding has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Security Guard within the private security industry.

On course completion, having gained your qualification, you will be able to apply to the SIA for the ‘actual’ licence. There is a cost to this of £190. Applications are also subject to a criminal record check. Once granted, the licence is valid for 3 years before renewal.

Pre-requisites.

- Applicants must be over the age of 18 years

- Applicants must be able to provide appropriate personal identification (see the 'Identification' tab).

English Assessment

English Assessment for Level 2 Courses

It is a requirement of the SIA, Ofqual and SIA training Awarding Organisations that learners who take the course have a basic knowledge of the English language - as all assessments are conducted in the medium of English. Therefore, on the first day of your course, you will be expected to take a basic English test.

Therefore, on the first day of your course, you will be expected to take a basic English test.

To help prepare you for the test (or to put your mind at rest), please see the simple English assessment on following pages. This is not the actual test and does ‘NOT’ need to be completed, but it is similar.

The purpose of the example is for you to confirm your ability to be able to complete a similar test on the first day of the course.

Your permission - photos & video: During the course, photographs and video recording may take place. There is no obligation to consent to this. If you don’t want to be photographed or filmed please inform the Tutor, who will make appropriate arrangements. Unless you make it clear to the Tutor beforehand, SfJ will assume your permission is granted to include images taken on our (public) Facebook web site and other similar publicity media.

Your email/contact number: If the Tutor requests your email or contact number for the Attendance Register, this will be for quality assurance purposes only. That is, so that after a course we can contact a sample of delegates to confirm their satisfaction with the training. SfJ will not use your details for any other purpose and as soon as the QA process has been conducted the data will be permanently deleted. There is no obligation on you to provide your email or contact telephone number.

SIA Licence Applications.

You will only be able to apply for a licence when you have passed all exams and assessments of the course - results can take between (7-10 working days after course completion).

To apply for your SIA Licence, visit http://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/licensing-applying.aspx

You can then start the process by completing your application online. Once you have completed this online, you will be asked you to go to a UK post office to complete your application. You will need to take certain documents with you (The SIA will tell you which ones when you submit your application). Not all post offices offer this service – please check the post office website for details on which ones do. The post office staff will check and return your documents, take a digital photograph of you, take an electronic version of your signature and take payment of the application fee (£190). You may need to send your documents to the SIA as well as taking them to the post office. The SIA will tell you if this is the case when you submit your application.

When applying for your licence online, select ‘frontline’ licence, and ‘Security Guard’ as the role.

NOTE: Do ‘not’ select more than 1 role or a different role (other than Security Guard) or you will confuse the system.
