Rob Knowles

Rob is a qualified martial arts coach and has extensive experience working as a Door Supervisor and Specialist Security Trainer. Qualifying as a professional trainer in 2000, from 2006-2011 Rob was Director and co-owner of the Door Supervisor Training Organisation, where his role included responsibility for developing, delivering and marketing bespoke security training courses nationally, a role in which he quickly gained an industry-wide reputation as being a leading instructor in the sector.

In 2010 Rob took the decision to set up Aegis Skills Ltd and soon established his own leading brand of Physical Intervention training, his goal being to produce a Physical Intervention course for Door Supervisors that really was ‘fit for purpose’ (designed for Door Supervisors by Door Supervisors). Developing the ‘Aegis Physical Intervention Skills for Security Operatives Programme’, Rob secured its subsequent accreditation by Awarding Organisation HABC whilst at the same time also gaining accreditation for an accompanying level3 Train the Trainer Programme. Never wavering from that original goal and in a continual effort to provide only the very best training to students, fast forward through a series of personal and professional business development steps, Rob now heads up Skills For Jobs and Shield PI, providing the industries most sought after SIA Security and Hospitality Training Courses nationally.

Rob’s professional experience also includes providing expert witness and professional advice in court on matters relating to the use of force, the application of Physical Intervention and Restraint cases involving Door Supervisors, he further advises courts on matters relating to SIA DS Module 4 – Physical Intervention and Restraint Skills for the Private Security Industry.

Highly driven, motivated by excellence and extremely passionate about what he does, Rob teaches level 2 & level 3 Physical Intervention courses, SIA Door Supervisor courses, Conflict Management & Assault Avoidance courses all on a regular basis throughout the UK. Alan 'Sid' Sidders

Alan (Sid) Sidders has over 25 years’ experience in conflict management and training others in how to deal with aggression and challenging behaviour. Much of that time has been spent working as an operational door supervisor, and the last 9 years has seen Sid working for Marc–One Security as the Sussex area manager. Both an accomplished security operative and security instructor, Sid’s vast experience spans security guarding, cash collection, mental health environments, residential homes, secure units, acute community settings, enforcement and repossession roles.

Gaining a PTTLS Level 4 teaching qualification in 2011, Sid has been an active instructor teaching professionals and delivering ‘Train the Trainer’ type courses ever since. Sid has designed, implemented and delivered training courses based around Performance and Image Enhancing Drugs (steroids), has co-designed alongside NHS trainers, courses relevant to substance misuse, Blood Borne Viruses, Domestic and Sexual Violence, and has also developed and hosted specialist workshops on harm reduction, Cannabis, Crack and Client Outreach in the community. Sid has attended NHS training in conflict management and disengagement using the ICM model and been training with Rob Knowles (SfJ) since 2012, teaching the level 1 (SIA) Course and advanced level 2.

Sid is a regular at his local gym, strength training and power lifting, and is also an exponent of the martial arts, Kick Boxing, Western Boxing, Kung Fu, Karate, and regularly trains in Jujitsu.

Tommy Tucker

Tommy has extensive first aid, security and health and safety experience gained in the military as well as his working life afterwards. Following 24 years in the army with numerous operational tours of Northern Ireland, 6 years in Germany, 27 months in Oman, 4 months exchange in Sydney, Australia, 3 months in Norway, and also time spent in Denmark and Cyprus, as well as 15 years security experience in guarding, door supervision and CCTV, progressing to teaching those skills to others was a natural move for Tommy.

In the classroom, Tommy’s delivery style is informal, stimulating and fun, whilst instilling the severity of the subject matter being taught. He is passionate about providing people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to help in an emergency, stay safe and deal with challenges they may face in the workplace, and consistently receives excellent feedback from students and others. Despite Tommy’s already vast knowledge of the security industry, he keeps up-to-date with his areas of expertise through annual CPD so as students always benefit from the most up-to-date skills and techniques. Tommy has been a Security instructor, Alcohol licence instructor, and Conflict management instructor, since 2004, a First Aid instructor and Physical intervention instructor since 2011, and Health and Safety instructor since 2014.

Tommy's past leisure activities included football at divisional and corps level providing him with experience in dealing with sports injuries, although golf is his current pastime.

Maurice Hines

Maurice has over 16 years’ experience delivering training courses and conference workshops across the UK. A specialist on issues of equality, inclusion, conflict resolution, behaviour management and Safeguarding (children and adults), Maurice has delivered subject specific training to care sector staff, child-care and early years practitioners, front-line staff, sports leaders, and professional football clubs, amongst many others.

With an extensive knowledge of working within the private security industry, Maurice combines his training expertise with operational knowledge informed primarily by years working as a door supervisor at licensed venues and events to inform his delivery of a range of Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensed linked training courses.

Maurice is also a qualified First Aid Instructor.


Carl Sonnen

Highly experienced when dealing with matters of security and safety, Carl has over 20 years operational knowledge to his credit. Working in various public facing, customer service and security roles, Carl brings his knowledge of conflict resolution and experience dealing with emotional and highly agitated customers to the classroom.

Having a thirst for personal and professional development, Carl is continually expanding his knowledge of both techniques and case law surrounding conflict management and physical intervention topics. He sets high standards for himself and of his students and is passionate  about empowering them to achieve their goals.

Having worked as Head of Security/Operations Executive for a major crowd management company, team supervisor, SIA Door Supervisor, self-defence and martial arts instructor, Carl has a wealth of real-world experience dealing with people, as such he’s keen to nurture a collaborative classroom environment that demonstrates inclusion and respect.

Alan Price

Allan is an accomplished security instructor with a proven career spanning 25+ years.

Adept at planning and implementing service team operations, Allan is accustomed to project management and coordinating resources effectively for quick adaption between different environments in order to meet stringent constraints. A PTLLS qualified trainer, Allan combines academic excellence with the afore mentioned operational knowledge in an energetic and passionate way in the classroom, training security operatives to a professional standard enabling licensing up to SIA Door Supervisor.

Allan is also trained in Life Support and Defibrillation.

Gavin Edgar

Gavin is an exceptional security and conflict management trainer with a proven track record of achievement.

Having worked for and with clients such as, NHS, HM Forces, Red Cross, Nspcc and other high-profile clients providing event and retail security, VIP Close Protection, Surveillance, Mobile and Static Security services, on top of working as a door supervisor, Gavin brings to the classroom years of operational knowledge and experience. Gavin has been an approved trainer with several bodies including BIIAB, Maybo, Highfield HABC and Skills for Security since 2003, and delivers training in all areas of customer service and Conflict Management encompassing the Law, Violence and Aggression in the workplace including issues of personal safety, self-defence and security.

In his downtime Alan has interests in bush-craft, shooting field sports and training in real life street defence systems.

Jason Hall

Jason has been involved in security since 2015 and been delivering SIA Course Instruction since 2010. With vast operational experience working as a door supervisor, then later as Head Door Supervisor, Jason took that experience and expanded into other areas of security working at some of the most famous sporting venues in the UK including Wembley Stadium, Twickenham Stadium, Lords Cricket Ground, and Wimbledon Tennis Grounds. Further, Jason has worked some of the biggest festivals in the UK including V-fest, Creamfields and Global Gathering, and also worked at some of the biggest film premieres in Leicester Square.

After gaining his SIA Door Supervisor License, Jason went on to gain licenses in other sectors which include CCTV and Close Protection, which, combined with his diverse security industry experience allows him to deliver course content in the classroom in a fun and practical way.

Jason has a genuine commitment to his students and is often able to best direct students into suitable areas of the security industry best matching their particular skills and skill-sets. Still operational in the security industry, Jason is currently leading security teams at several sporting grounds in London as well as regularly working in Nightclubs and Licensed venues.

Matt Stait

Training in martial arts since the late 80's, Matt now holds a 3rd dan black belt under Master Dave Turton. Matt further holds 11 different instructor licenses for several other systems and forms of martial arts and self-defence, which he regularly delivers at his martial arts gym located in South Wales. Alongside training people at his gym, Matt also works nationally delivering self-defence instructor courses, visiting schools to teach martial arts and has been actively involved with the charity ‘Stand against violence’ for several years delivering anti-violence workshops and self-defence seminars.

Matt has worked in the security industry since the late 90's and has operational experience in most sectors. His roles have included covert security at Glastonbury festival, head of the close protection team for members of the Saudi royal family and close protection for various celebrities, he has been head doorman at many large venues around Bristol and worked bars, clubs, casinos, concerts, festivals and other events.

Ian is a 30-year former Police Special Branch Officer with now over 15 years Private Security Industry Experience. He is a specialist in Close Protection, Anti-Terrorism and Firearms whose role included the protection of the Royal Family including The Queen Mother, Prince Charles, Princess Diana, leading Politicians and visiting foreign diplomats. Ian continues his service in the industry as an adviser to many high profile companies and embassies, he is passionate about Close Protection and the training of the next generation of operatives.
Shaun is a former Parachute regiment soldier seconded to UK special forces. He is one of our close protection and hostile CP trainers. Shaun is responsible for the training of the One Direction CP team for their world tour and has looked after various high profile and high net clients both in the UK and abroad. He was formerly the British Army middle weight boxing champion and is currently the World middle weight bare knuckle boxing champion who is also a master of various disciplines of martial arts. Shaun continues to work with celebrities and high net worth clients on a regular basis and in between teaching for ClosePro.
Former Armed Forces who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq, both as a serving soldier and as a Private Industry Close Protection Officer. An outstanding trainer and assessor who is also still Operational both in Executive and Hostile CP work. John also runs and co-ordinates our Hostile Training programme which is the only Level 4 'live fire programme in the world.
Paul is a former 12 year SAS soldier whom having served 12 years in the parachute regiment now advises the cobra management team when required on our hostile training level 4 courses and operational work in hostile environments.
Chris is a 30 year former Police Officer who is a specialist in CP driving techniques and he is retained by the College of Policing to train serving Police Officers in his Specialist techniques. Chris runs our Level 3 CP Driving and Surveillance Courses.
